Teddy's Favorite
September 30, 2009
Teddy didn't want to end her Getty posts before showing you her favorite work of art, this unusual 18th century French ceramic painting. Notice how the frame and painting are both on the same piece of ceramic. Teddy has never seen anything like this before! Why aren't there more of these?

the painting is of a crowd of people around a woman by a water well. Sheep stand nearby. There is also a treasure chest in the foreground. Sorry, don't know the painter!
ReplyDeletethis type of art was commom in the 18th century. you don't see more of it because the pieces were fragile and broke easily
ReplyDeleteteddy has the best taste! i love this. so old fashioned and Marie Antoinette-esque!
ReplyDeleteI like this too. Very pretty. Looks like it belongs in the Palace of Versailles!
ReplyDeleteWhen is Teddy going to the Getty Villa???
ReplyDeleteI really like this too. Pretty
ReplyDeleteSo unusual, I love that it's shiny and looks so new
ReplyDeletethis is my favorite too. they should make replicas and sell them. art is so boring these days, everything is a painting or a poster.
