Montage Madness!

August 31, 2009
Inside Montage Beverly Hills is pretty swank too. After lunch at Parq the bears roamed the resort. Teddy was surprised to see so much artwork everywhere and Nibs was blown away by all the lit candles that lined the hallways! It reminded him a little bit of the Haunted Mansion ride at Disneyland--you know, the one where there are floating candlesticks in the hallways.

Montage Monday

August 31, 2009
This morning Teddy and Nibs checked out the mini-park built in the middle of the newish, massive hotel, Montage Beverly Hills on Canon Drive (it opened in November). In order to erect such a large structure, the city demanded the developers create a cute little park for the public to enjoy. They did a swell job! Nestled among the gorgeous Spanish Colonial Revival buildings, the park has lots of places to sit and read. It's Italianesque and peaceful. Teddy liked the fountains. Here she is testing the waters of the fountain on the East side of the park.

Teddy and Nibs See Vertigo

August 30, 2009
Last night Teddy and Nibs watched Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo. It's Teddy's favorite movie because it's set in San Francisco, stars the compelling Kim Novak and involves an incredible makeover. Even though Teddy has seen the movie many times, the twist always intrigues her. Nibs likes Jimmy Stewart's Everyman Detective and often imitates his voice for fun, which makes Teddy giggle. Later this year Nibs is going to take Teddy to San Francisco and Carmel for a "Vertigo Tour" where they will check out the all the locations where the film was shot. Of course, they will photograph the whole adventure for you to see.

Nibs Visits the Library

August 29, 2009
Today Teddy wanted to sleep in very late, so Nibs headed out solo to do his own thing. He hoped to stay cool so he went to the Beverly Hills Library, which blasts air conditioning. It's a beautiful place with lots to look at like mini photo exhibits about the history of L.A. and books, of course. For some reason, Nibs wandered to the marriage advice aisle without even knowing he was doing so. The book Project Everlasting caught his eye. Even though he loves Teddy to bits, Nibs thinks it's wise to always pick up tips, whenever he can, on how to deal with such an, er, eccentric wife.

Too Hot For Teddy!

August 28, 2009
There's a scorching heatwave in L.A. Temperatures are hovering in the high 90s on the Westside. Teddy and Nibs were so hot they had to cool off in their shady back yard. Nibs reclined as Teddy checked how her lemons were coming along. Teddy still doesn't understand why lemons are dark green before they turn yellow. She hopes they ripen soon. She can't wait to make homemade lemonade for her neighbors. Stay cool!

Teddy Chocolate Shops

August 28, 2009
You never know when a sweet tooth will strike. Teddy's friend Gabriella has been raving about a chocolate shop on Canon Drive in Beverly Hills called Madame Chocolat so Teddy headed up there after lunch. Boy oh boy was she in for a treat! The store is packed with lovely chocolates; the truffles are to die for and the smores are scintillating. The atmosphere is just as marvelous--very Francais. Teddy felt like she was on the Avenue des Champs-Elysees!

Teddy and Nibs Plan Labor Day Weekend

August 28, 2009
Nibs feels bad that he was so hard on Teddy for splurging at Nordstrom so he offered to take her to Santa Barbara for Labor Day weekend, which is next weekend, Sept. 4 to Sept. 7. Do you have any plans yet? Teddy loves Santa Barbara because she can shop on State Street (where there is, you guessed it, a Nordstrom!) and dine at Andersen's, a Danish restaurant with the yummiest pastries in California! She also admires the town's Spanish architecture and likes to bask in the cool temperatures (being furry is great in the winter, but not in the summer, especially during an L.A. heatwave). Here Teddy and Nibs are perusing Santa Barbara's website.

Nibs Found Out!

August 27, 2009
Remember how Teddy bought too many Burberry items when she went purse shopping at Nordstrom yesterday? Well, Nibs found out! Nibs said it's fine to spend, but she has to stay within a budget. Teddy asked why. It just didn't make sense to her. Then Nibs explained that it's no fun to buy everything at once. There's more joy in buying these luxuries a piece at a time. That way she has something to look forward to. Teddy still didn't understand, but she said OK anyhow. She even showed Nibs that she was capable of saving when she put $10 in her piggy bank. Nibs seemed pleased and gave her a smooch.

Teddy and the Tabloids

August 27, 2009
When Nibs goes to the gym in the morning, Teddy pulls out her tabloids and devours them. She loves reading about Jennifer Aniston. She knows Jennifer puts her career first and that's why she doesn't have a good man in her life, but still, Teddy wishes Jennifer somehow could meet a nice, solid man... someone like Nibs! Teddy is so happy she has Nibs in her life. To quote Julia Child, "He's the bread to my butter!" Without Nibs Teddy would be lost. Awwww. Anyhow, next month Teddy is going to see Jennifer's new movie Love Happens. She knows it's going to be bad, but she'll see it anyhow because Teddy is a sucker for romantic comedies. Are you going to see it?

Teddy Finds Her Purse!

August 26, 2009
After perusing the purse section of Nordstrom for two hours, looking at the new Chloe bags (too heavy!) and some of the fall Versace totes (too flashy!), Teddy decided on a traditional-looking Burberry purse. Teddy is a big fan of Burberry and not just because her old British pal Mr. Paddington wears the label! Teddy likes the classics. Teddy also bought a matching wallet and makeup bag. Shhhh... Don't tell Nibs! He has no idea Teddy spent so much money. Nibs was kicking back in the Nordstrom Cafe when Teddy splurged. That Teddy! She's gonna get in trouble!

Teddy and Nibs at The Grove

August 26, 2009
Teddy and Nibs love The Grove Shopping Center in L.A. because it looks like Disneyland but has lots of fun stores like Nordstrom and chic bistros like Morels. They haven't been there in a while because it's so crowded (sometimes people accidentally step on their paws--ouch!), but decided to check it out anyhow since Teddy is in search of a new fall purse and The Grove has the best! Nibs would rather be at home watching a football game, but he doesn't like to let Teddy go to malls alone because she gets lost so easily (that Teddy!). So he came along. Teddy loves the elevators at The Grove because she can see the mall as she descends. She also likes to push the button for the elevator--it's her thing! Stay tuned as Teddy wanders The Grove in search of the perfect purse. And wish Nibs luck, he will need a lot of patience today...

Teddy Tries a Workout

August 26, 2009
Nibs keeps telling Teddy that she has to work out a little bit every day, but she never listens... until this morning! For some reason, Teddy took the bold move of getting on Nibs' fancy pants bicycle machine. It wasn't easy figuring out the controls, but after punching every button on the board, Teddy got it running. Twenty minutes later she felt like a new bear. Now, off to the bakery! tee hee

Late Summer Swim

August 25, 2009
The summer is coming to a close, but it's still pretty darn hot in Los Angeles! Teddy and Nibs thought it might be a good idea to take a dip in their pool, but the water was really cold so they decided not to. Plus, no matter how many times Nibs tells her it's just not possible, Teddy always feels like there could be a shark in the water--she believes that some day, some way, somehow a shark could by some crazy means get in their swimming pool. Nibs wishes Teddy would stop watching Shark Week on The Discovery Channel!

Nibs Hits the Bakery

August 25, 2009
After watching that thrilling episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Teddy got a craving for something really sweet and yummy. Nibs hopped in his car and went to their favorite sweeterie, Le Pain Quotidien (yes, they are regulars). He picked up a Chocolate Mousse Cake and a Lemon Tart. Teddy and Nibs don't eat treats all the time, just once a day, that's all. They shared their desserts. Teddy liked the Lemon Tart the best and Nibs preferred the Chocolate Mousse Cake, which was good because they didn't fight over who got more of one. The sweets made them sleepy so they took an afternoon nap.

Alfred Hitchcock Presents "The Penpal"

August 25, 2009
Teddy and Nibs love to watch reruns of Alfred Hitchcock Presents, the TV series from the 1950s and 1960s that can sometimes be a little bit scary (Nibs insists Teddy watch it only during the day so she doesn't get bad dreams). Today they saw "The Penpal" about an older woman who is penpals with a handsome young man in the clinker. Instead of revealing her real age, she says she's in her 20s. You can see on Teddy and Nibs' TV screen the older woman and the photo of the younger woman she pretends to be (she sent this photo to the incarcerated man). Well, things get weird when the guy busts out of jail and comes looking for his young penpal (eek!). The older lady explains the girl in the photo is her niece, but she's out of town. Luckily the cops come and take the guy away, saving the older woman from having to tell the embarrassing truth. Teddy learned an important lesson from this episode: never try to be someone you're not!

Teddy and Nibs Go House Hunting

August 24, 2009
Teddy and Nibs know they want a new house. Why shouldn't they live in luxury? Nibs put in many years as a medical doctor and he invested wisely in real estate up and down the coast of California. He feels he should be able to enjoy his rewards. Teddy worked hard too. For many years she was a model in New York City. Maybe you recognize her? So Teddy and Nibs roamed the Beverly Hills "flats" area today. They both know they want a beige house with lots of flowers and plants. And a big TV room. They love to watch old movies at home. Those are pretty much their requirements. Oh, and Teddy would like a posh fountain in her back yard. Here are some of the mansions Teddy and Nibs previewed today. They are all on Maple Drive in Beverly Hills. Happy house hunting Teddy and Nibs!

Teddy Stops N Smells the Roses

August 24, 2009
After a few good meals, Teddy felt she needed a leisurely stroll around beautiful L.A. to balance her day out so she took to the graveled, nicely manicured path along Santa Monica Blvd. in Beverly Hills. Teddy loves to stop and smell the roses. She's a real floraphile even though she doesn't garden (she hates to get her paws dirty!). After a good saunter past Maple Drive, Teddy stumbled upon the pink Gemini Hybrid Tea roses. She was taken by their color and natural simplicity. Teddy recommends that whenever you pass a rose you take a good look (and whiff) because rose admiring is one of the true lovely pleasures in life.
