Teddy Has The Blues

June 8, 2010
Teddy's brownie hangover is lasting longer than usual.
She refuses to get out of bed. She just lies there looking at the ceiling!
Nibs is starting to see a pattern. Every time Teddy gets back from vacation she goes into a slump.
Nibs has decided that he needs to get Teddy on a plane asap. But where should he send her?

Nibs Gets Chic

June 7, 2010
Poor Teddy got a headache from eating too many brownies so Nibs went to dinner alone last night at the new hot spot Chic on Pico Blvd.
The menu was pure French and included a melted goat cheese plate (!) and a bison burger (!!).
Nibs enjoyed the atmosphere and the friendly French waiter who described all the wines available. No froggy 'tude here.
The art work stood out. Nibs loves old movie posters like this red one for Stolen Kisses, a film Nibs has never heard of before. So '70s. So.... chic!
Nibs decided on the salmon and avocado appetizer with a side of crisp bread. All bears love salmon. Especially grizzlies, though Nibs is not a grizzly. Like, duh. Does he look like a grizzly?
Nibs can't wait to take Teddy to Chic! She will love it. Especially their extended dessert menu. The French never forget their desserts....and neither does Teddy.

Brownies For Nibs

June 4, 2010
Teddy was so grateful that Nibs gave her the wonderful book Some Girls: My Life in a Harem (juuuuuuuuuicy!) that she made him a batch of Trader Joe's style brownies, his fave, to say thanks.
First Teddy turned the oven to 325 degrees. Teddy's oven has big knobs. Easier for her paws to maneuver.
Next she stirred in two eggs and a stick of butter with the mix. Teddy's paws got tired quickly. Making brownies is a workout!
A half hour later and... voila! Teddy had a batch of brownies. (Don't forget to sprinkle powdered sugar on top for a finished Martha Stewart look.)
Nibs was so thrilled he gave Teddy a peck. Awww. After 10 years of marriage they're still in love!
What have you done for your bear lately?

Some Girls!

June 3, 2010
Nibs picked up a new book for Teddy thinking she could benefit from less TV time and more reading. The book? Some Girls: My Life in a Harem by Jillian Lauren. Teddy could not put it down!
It's about a New York City call girl who says yes to spending several weeks in Prince Jefri's harem in Brunei in the early 90s. She ends up staying for several months, shopping at Chanel, gulping champagne nightly and being gifted diamond-encrusted Rolex watches. She leaves with about $100,000.
The author survived the weird ordeal (living in a harem has its downside, like competitiveness). She's now married to Scott Shriner from the rock band Weezer, has an adopted son and lives in L.A. See her picture below.
Teddy felt sorry for Jillian. She went through a lot! If she had a guy like Nibs in her life she would never have had to experience all that weirdness. Nice to see she came out of it OK.

Marilyn Monroe Ate Here!

June 2, 2010
Paradise Cove is rich in Hollywood history. Check out this photo below. It's of Marilyn Monroe taking "Sweater Girl" modeling shots on the top of the Cove. By the way, yesterday was Marilyn's birthday. She would have been 84!
Some of the walls of the Beach Cafe are lined with black-and-white photos of Golden Era stars, like Clark Gable and this guy below that the bears didn't recognize. Do you?
Nibs noticed that all three original Charlie's Angels (Farrah Fawcett, Jaclyn Smith and Kate Jackson) had also been there as their autographed head shots were plastered above the bar.
Nice to see there are still some old Hollywood haunts around.

Beach Food

June 1, 2010
Eating is one of the best things you can possibly do on Memorial Day. Especially eating large brunches before noon. Paradise Cove is home to Bob Morris' Beach Cafe Malibu, which has an extensive brunch menu.
Teddy took one look at the menu and knew she wanted her favorite, Eggs Benedict.
Nibs was very interested in the Malibu Rum bar. What? He's only human! I mean, non-human.
Teddy was disappointed with her Eggs Benedict. The English muffin needs to be toasted, people! How does any chef on the planet not know that? Phooey.
Nibs was happy with his egg scramble that had God-knows-what in it.
Not exactly the Riu Playa Del Carmen, but not bad either!

Paradise Found... In Malibu

June 1, 2010
Teddy had post-Mexico blues (of course) so Nibs took her to the beach yesterday for more sun and fun. The bears packed up early and drove North to Paradise Cove in Malibu.
There was a restaurant, outdoor bar and pier, which Teddy was a little scared to walk on. (Not all bears are brave. Well, most are, but not Teddy!)
Nibs preferred to keep his paws in the sand.
Teddy considered swimming but there were so many seals in the water she thought no. She didn't want to be a seal snack. Not today! (Do seals eat bears?)
More later on this historical cove where movie stars, like Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe, roamed in the 50s and 60s...
